Charismatic Adult

Privacy

The short version: we are not a company, we are not selling anything, and we do not want your data for any purpose other than the one you gave it to us for.

What this site is

Charismatic Adult is a free resource run by one person. There is nothing here to buy. There is no advertising, no sponsorship, and no commercial arrangement of any kind behind anything you read on this site. Nobody pays us to say any of it.

The only thing on offer here is hope for kids — the idea that an ordinary adult who shows up can change how a childhood turns out, and some practical help with doing that. That is the entire business model, because it is not a business.

What we collect, and only what we collect

We ask for as little as we can get away with, and every field has one specific job:

  • Your email address. So we can send you the weekly note if you asked for it, send you the one check-back question if you finished a level, or send you your letter draft if you wrote to the wall. Nothing else.
  • Your name. So a certificate has a name on it, and so an email does not open with “Hi there.”
  • Where you are — town and state. Optional, always. It goes on the certificate if you want it there. We do not need your address and we do not ask for it.
  • What you write. Your story, or the commitment you made for a level.

We do not ask for your date of birth, your phone number, your mailing address, or anything financial. There is nothing to pay for, so there is no payment information anywhere on this site.

What we will never do

  • We will never sell your information. Not to anyone, at any price, ever.
  • We will never rent, trade, share or otherwise hand it to a third party for their own use.
  • We will never use it for marketing — ours or anyone else’s. You will not be advertised at, and you will not be added to a list you did not ask to be on.
  • We will never sign you up to something as a side effect of you doing something else on this site.
  • We will not publish your email address or your full name on the wall or anywhere else. Stories run with first names and roles.

If this site ever changes hands or changes purpose, we will say so on this page before anything about the above changes, not after.

Stopping

Every email we send has a one-click unsubscribe and it works immediately. You do not have to give a reason and nobody will email you to ask why.

If you want your information deleted entirely, ask and we will delete it. If you want a story taken down off the wall after it has been published, ask and we will take it down. You do not need a justification for either.

Stories on the wall

Nothing is published automatically. A person reads every submission before it appears. We publish with the writer’s consent, using first names and roles rather than full names, unless someone has specifically asked us to do otherwise.

If you name a person in your story, think about whether they would be comfortable being recognizable. We will err on the side of removing detail rather than keeping it.

The boring technical part

This site runs on standard web hosting, which keeps ordinary server logs. We use Google Analytics to count how many people visit and which pages they read, because it is useful to know whether any of this is reaching anybody. It is not used to build a profile of you and it is not connected to the email address you gave us.

The site sets no advertising cookies, because there is no advertising.

Might this ever become a non-profit?

Possibly, some years from now. If enough people find this useful, and if we work out a way to make a genuinely bigger difference than a website can — getting this into the hands of people who see a lot of kids, funding something that reaches further — then formally becoming a non-profit may be the right way to do it.

We are saying so here because it would be dishonest to pretend the thought has never crossed our minds. But nothing on this page changes if that happens. A non-profit still does not sell your email address. The commitments above are not temporary, and they are not conditional on what this becomes.

Asking us anything

If you want to know what we hold about you, want it corrected, or want it gone, just ask. There is no form and no process. A person reads it and does the thing.
